Essam Moustafa, Khaled Aljifri

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to empirically examine the effect of a learning approach that combines active learning activities with educational technology tools. This study was conducted in a Middle-Eastern country where English is the second language. Data was collected through a document study technique. A one-group pretest-post-test design and a post-test-only control group design were conducted using random groups of students. The experiments were conducted in three different learning environments: the traditional approach (TL), the cooperative learning approach (CL), and the Laptop-Based Active Learning approach (LAL). The study concludes that the LAL approach appears to have a significant positive effect on students' performance compared with the other two approaches.
